How to travel from Greece to Cyprus with a pet by ferry

If you're planning a trip to Cyprus with a dog or cat and can't or don't want to fly — for example, you have a brachycephalic breed (like pugs, bulldogs, or Persians), your pet is too large to fly in the cabin, or you simply don’t want to place them in the aircraft hold — then the Daleela ferry, running between Piraeus (Greece) and Limassol (Cyprus), might be a convenient option.

This route operates only in the summer season — roughly from late May to early September. The journey takes about 30–31 hours, so it's important to prepare in advance and plan your pet’s accommodation.

Only dogs and cats are allowed on board, and each passenger may bring only one pet. A separate ticket is required for the animal, and there are two available travel options for pets.

The first option is a dedicated kennel area located in the garage section of the ship. There are 10 kennels, suitable for animals weighing up to 40 kg. The fare for a pet in a kennel is €35 one-way or €70 round-trip. Owners can visit their pet 3–4 times during the voyage (from 9:30 to 21:30), accompanied by the crew. You must bring food, water, bowls, and bedding — as you are responsible for the care and feeding.

The second option is for small pets up to 5 kg — the Pet Cabin, a cabin specially designed to accommodate passengers with animals. There are only two such cabins on the ferry, so booking in advance is essential. The pet fare for the Pet Cabin is €50 one-way or €100 round-trip, in addition to the passenger fare. Inside the Pet Cabin, your pet may stay freely with you. A carrier or leash (with a muzzle) is only required when outside the cabin. Pets are not allowed in restaurants or shared lounges.

As for passenger fares, the most economical option is a deck seat (€41.08 one-way, €82.16 round-trip). For more comfort, you can choose from several cabin types. First-class cabin prices are:

  • Single cabin: €76.08 one-way (€152.16 round-trip)
  • Double: €71.08 (€142.16 round-trip)
  • Triple and quadruple: €66.08 (€132.16 round-trip)

Second-class cabins are cheaper and cost the same regardless of the number of beds: €51.08 one-way or €102.16 round-trip.

For example:

  • 2nd class double + pet in kennel = €86.08 one-way (€172.16 round-trip)
  • 1st class double + pet in kennel = €106.08 one-way (€212.16 round-trip)
  • 2nd class double + Pet Cabin = €101.08 one-way (€202.16 round-trip)

Important travel rules: pets may not be left in vehicles during the journey. In shared areas, pets must be in a carrier or on a leash with a muzzle.

The following breeds are prohibited: Dogo Argentino, Fila Brasileiro, Japanese Tosa, Pit Bull Terrier, and American Pit Bull.

Make sure to prepare all necessary documents and supplies to ensure your pet travels comfortably. For more details, visit the official ferry operator’s website.
