New import duties on dogs and cats from Russia and Belarus!

Starting from 20 July 2025, the import of dogs and cats from Russia and Belarus into the European Union will become significantly more expensive. According to EU Regulation 2025/1227, published in the Official Journal of the EU, animals — including dogs and cats — imported from these countries will be subject to an additional customs duty of 50% on top of the standard rates.

It is important to note that the new tariffs apply to all imports, regardless of whether they are commercial or private. This measure is part of the EU's sanctions policy, aimed at reducing economic dependence on Russia and Belarus.

The regulation does not provide exemptions for pet owners relocating with their animals, so even private travel with a pet will require careful documentation and readiness to pay the increased duty.
