✅ What’s Allowed
To Switzerland, Germany, Italy, Spain, and Belgium (Brussels):
- Small animals (weighing up to 10 kg) in a closed container not exceeding 45 x 30 x 25 cm — ticket price: €7
- Dogs on a leash (wearing a muzzle) — also require a €7 ticket
- Guide and assistance dogs travel free of charge, with no ticket required on all trains
- TGV INOUI, INTERCITÉS, TER — pets are allowed under the conditions above
- INTERCITÉS Night Trains:
- In seated cars: pet ticket is €19
- In sleeping compartments: pets are only allowed if the entire compartment is booked (“espace privatif”); in this case, no extra pet fee is charged
To Switzerland, Germany, Italy, Spain, and Belgium (Brussels):
- Small animals in carriers — €7
- Leashed dogs — €20
- Flat rate of €7, regardless of the pet type
- Veterinary passport with valid vaccinations (including rabies)
- European Pet Passport, issued and filled in by a veterinarian
- Pet identification in accordance with EU standard Reg. EC No. 998/2003
- One animal per passenger
- Animals must be on a leash and muzzled, unless transported in a carrier
- Consent from other passengers is required to travel with an animal (except for guide dogs)
- On replacement buses, only guide dogs are allowed.
✅ What’s Allowed
- Small dogs (no larger than a cat) — travel free of charge, but must be transported in a closed carrier (hard or soft, but leakproof).
- Large dogs — allowed, but must have a valid ticket, be on a leash and wear a muzzle.
- The fare is the same as for an adult passenger on the same route.
- For trips using the “Deutschland-Ticket” (nationwide travel pass), a separate dog ticket must be purchased via regional counters or online.
- Via the website bahn.de or the DB Navigator app.
- During the booking process:
- Select your route
- Enter “Hund” (dog) as the passenger name to correctly generate the fare.
- Dogs are not allowed on seats.
- Guide dogs (for passengers with disabilities) can travel free of charge and without a muzzle.

🚆 High-Speed Trains ("Sapsan", "Lastochka")
Conditions:
- Only small animals and birds in carriers are allowed.
- In economy class, the animal transport fee is included in the ticket price.
- In first and business class, no more than one animal per ticket and a maximum of two per carriage. An additional fee of 900 RUB applies.
- Guide dogs travel for free, must be on a leash and wear a muzzle.
No veterinary transport documents are required within Russia if:
- There is no change of ownership,
- The transport is not for business purposes,
- The animal is not being transported to a show.
🧳 Unaccompanied Animal Transport
- RZD offers unaccompanied animal cargo service in special baggage cars.
- The animal must be in a cage or carrier.
- Bookings can be made online or at designated baggage ticket offices.
- The cost depends on the route distance.
